Marc Guiu’s career on loan at Sunderland has lasted just 25 days after he was caught up in a bizarre Chelsea transfer storm.
Chelsea loaned the youngster to Sunderland on 6 August after he featured just three times in the Premier League in his first season, with most of Guiu’s 16 appearances coming in the UEFA Conference League.
All six of his goals for Chelsea came on their way to winning that tournament, and Guiu got off the mark on his full Sunderland debut with a late header in an eventual defeat by Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup.
Guiu came off the bench in Sunderland‘s last two league matches against Burnley and Brentford, but his time at the Stadium of Light is over already after Chelsea were left short of options in attack themselves.

Sunderland’s strong start to the season leaves them sixth in the table with two wins as this term’s newly-promoted sides buck the trend, but they’ll now have to navigate the rest of the season without Guiu.
Chelsea considered cancelling Guiu’s loan deal after their current number nine Liam Delap injured his hamstring against Fulham on Saturday, and that sparked a saga which also engulfed Nicolas Jackson.
Eventually, Chelsea gave Jackson the green light to complete his £70.5million move to Bayern Munich after recalling Guiu instead, and the Spanish striker posted on Instagram after his loan was cut short.

Guiu’s message acknowledged that his stint at the Stadium of Light was; “Short, really short… but intense”, and added that “these colours and this city will forever hold a place in my heart.”
A plethora of Guiu’s now former team-mates responded, with Noah Sadiki jokingly commenting; “Thanks for the two weeks”, and fellow new arrival Reinildo adding: “I already miss you”.

Football Insider Verdict
Guiu was the twelfth of 17 new signings made by Sunderland this summer as Regis Le Bris‘ side look to put their stamp on the Premier League, and three of those were made in direct response to his recall.
Sunderland moved quickly to seal the signings of Brian Brobbey and Bertrand Traore on permanent deals from Ajax to take their spending beyond £180m, with Lutsharel Geertruida also loaned from RB Leipzig.
Adding two Dutch internationals to an already-transformed side will only give the Black Cats a better chance of survival, and Brobbey in particular will hope to hit the ground running as Guiu did if he takes the number nine shirt.
